EMDR Consultation for Therapists

EMDR Consultation with Q Porschatis, LCSW, CIT

Whether you're newly trained in EMDR or have been practicing for years, it's common to encounter cases that leave you feeling uncertain, stuck, or wanting additional support. EMDR consultation provides a shame-free, collaborative space to strengthen your clinical skills, deepen your understanding of the EMDR model, improve EMDR case conceptualization, and gain confidence in your work with clients.

Many therapists leave EMDR Basic Training excited to begin using EMDR, only to discover that real-world clinical work brings questions that aren't always covered in training. You may find yourself wondering:

  • Am I following the protocol correctly?

  • Why does processing seem stuck?

  • How do I approach complex trauma cases?

  • What should I do when a client becomes overwhelmed or dysregulated?

  • How can I better conceptualize a case through an Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) lens?

EMDR consultation helps bridge the gap between training and confident clinical practice.

Consultant-in-Training (CIT) Consultation

As an EMDR Consultant-in-Training through The Trauma Therapist Institute (TTI), I provide consultation to therapists who are newly trained in EMDR, working toward EMDRIA certification, or seeking ongoing support to strengthen their EMDR skills and clinical confidence.

Under current EMDRIA guidelines, up to 15 of the 20 required consultation hours for EMDRIA Basic Training and Certification may be completed with a Consultant-in-Training. The remaining 5 hours must be completed with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.

My Consultation Approach

Through my work within the EMDR consultation community, I can also connect therapists with highly respected EMDRIA Approved Consultants when additional certification hours are needed.

My approach to consultation is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in fidelity to the EMDR model. Consultation is a shame-free learning space where therapists can ask questions, explore uncertainty, identify growth edges, and strengthen their skills without fear of judgment. My goal is to help clinicians build both confidence and competence while remaining curious, reflective, and committed to ongoing professional development.

As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, I understand that learning EMDR is a process.

My consultation style emphasizes:

  • Fidelity to the EMDR model

  • Thoughtful case conceptualization

  • Nervous-system-informed treatment planning

  • Polyvagal-informed and somatic perspectives

  • Practical, real-world application

  • Supportive feedback and professional growth

I believe consultation works best when it balances challenge with encouragement, helping therapists feel both supported and empowered in their development.
