Salty Counseling — Trauma Specialty Clinic in Salt Lake City

A trauma specialty clinic for clinicians who are seeking strong mentorship and meaningful professional growth.

Group therapy supervision session in Salt Lake City clinic.

Salty Counseling is a trauma specialty clinic based in Holladay, serving Salt Lake City and surrounding communities. Our work is grounded in ethical, depth-oriented care and structured clinical mentorship. We believe therapists thrive with clarity, clinical containment, and consistent support—not productivity pressure or a culture of burnout.

Many therapists come from environments where they were overworked, under-supervised, or expected to “figure it out on their own.” Salty Counseling was built as an alternative to that model.

Our clinic offers structured supervision, sustainable caseload expectations, and clear clinical systems so therapists can focus on learning and client care.

Who We Are

Salty Counseling is a trauma specialty clinic grounded in EMDR, somatic therapy, and nervous-system–informed care. Our work focuses on treating chronic stress, anxiety, and deeply rooted trauma patterns with intention, pacing, and clinical depth.

We operate as a focused clinical environment that prioritizes thoughtful treatment planning, ethical decision-making, and quality of care.

What Supervisees Are Saying

“For the past year, Q served as my supervisor while I completed my MSW at the University of Utah. Her approach allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. She fostered a supervisory relationship built on mutual respect, curiosity, and trust, and helped me develop confidence in my clinical voice.”

Who Thrives at Salty Counseling

Clinicians who tend to thrive here are those who:

  • Value depth-oriented, trauma-informed work

  • Want to be part of a growing clinic

  • Have at least one year of experience providing psychotherapy or counseling services to clients

  • Want to become a specialist in trauma-informed and EMDR therapy

  • Appreciate structure without rigidity

  • Want mentorship while developing their clinical voice, judgment, and skills

  • Care deeply about ethics, boundaries, and high-quality clinical care

  • Prefer intentional, sustainable caseloads over high-volume models

  • Therapists interested in exploring different specialties within trauma work.

We are not the right fit for everyone — and that clarity protects both clinicians and clients.

Room to Develop Your Specialty

While Salty Counseling is grounded in trauma-focused care, EMDR, and nervous-system–informed approaches, clinicians are not expected to replicate one specific niche or ideal client. We welcome therapists who bring—or want to develop—specialties that complement trauma work, including OCD, perinatal mental health, ADHD, grief, relationship concerns, and other areas that align with the clinic’s values and scope.

Our goal is to support each clinician in developing a clear professional identity while contributing to Salty Counseling’s shared clinical foundation.

We Are Growing

We welcome applications from both fully licensed and associate pre-licensed clinicians in Utah, including LCSW, CMHC, CSW, and ACMHC therapists.

Salty Counseling is actively accepting applications as we grow into a trauma specialty clinic.

Associate clinicians receive structured weekly supervision toward clinical licensure. All clinicians receive ongoing mentorship and EMDR consultation with Q Porschatis, LCSW, Consultant-in-Training (CIT), to support clinical development and EMDR training/certification.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to early applicants.

Our Philosophy of Work

We believe strong clinical work requires structure, containment, and support — not pressure, urgency, or productivity quotas.

At Salty Counseling, we are committed to:

  • Sustainable caseloads designed for long-term clinical work

  • Trauma-informed, ethics-driven decision-making

  • Clear expectations around scheduling, documentation, and scope

  • Strong professional boundaries that protect clinicians and clients

  • Structured mentorship

  • Respect for therapists as skilled professionals

Our goal is to create a clinical environment where therapists can deepen their skills, practice sustainably, and build confidence over time.

  • Clinical supervision and consultation: Guaranteed weekly supervision for associate therapists and ongoing clinical consultation for fully licensed therapists

  • Structured mentorship: Ongoing clinical guidance, EMDR consultation, and professional development support from Q

  • Discounted EMDR training: Reduced rates for EMDR Basic Training and advanced courses through the Trauma Therapist Institute

    • Paid time off

    • An annual professional development benefit of $350–$550

Compensation, scheduling expectations, supervision, benefit eligibility, and opportunities for growth are discussed clearly during the interview process.

Caseload Tiers

Clinicians may choose a caseload tier aligned with their availability and professional goals:

  • Base Tier: 12 client sessions per week

  • Mid-Tier: 13–16 client sessions per week

  • High-Tier: 17–20 client sessions per week

  • Upper-Tier: 21–24 client sessions per week

Clinicians who wish to maintain higher caseloads may do so based on clinical readiness,
sustainability, and mutual agreement. Caseloads are built to support long-term
success for both the client and the clinician, and to prevent burnout.

Work–Life Boundaries

  • Autonomy within a supportive clinical framework

  • Policies that protect therapists’ time, energy, and scope of practice

  • Emphasis on sustainable caseloads and realistic expectations

We prioritize clarity, consistency, and ethical practice — so clinicians always know what’s expected and where they’re headed.
