Welcome to Salty Counseling!

Hi! I'm Q Porschatis (she/her), a licensed mental health therapist in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am an EMDRIA-Certified Therapist™ specializing in trauma treatment through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy.

I founded Salty Counseling so that I could provide therapy services tailored to high-achieving Millennial women and queer individuals. My clients often experience anxiety, stress, disconnection, and feelings of being overwhelmed due to unresolved trauma and current life stressors. Together, we engage in deeper therapeutic work to explore how your past influences your present, allowing you to step into your true, authentic self and live a healthier, more peaceful life.

At Salty Counseling, my focus is on helping clients address the root causes of stress, anxiety, and trauma. I aim to guide clients in transforming their inner pain and stories into awareness and personal growth, allowing them to step more into their confident, unapologetic selves. Many of my clients have gone to talk therapy in the past but felt that their issues remained unresolved, leading to the same problems resurfacing over time. 

My dedication to achieving goal-driven, long-lasting results sets me apart from other therapists. Therapy should not be a lifelong requirement for symptom management. To help clients achieve lasting change, I use Polyvagal Theory, a form of Somatic Therapy, and EMDR therapy. Polyvagal Theory teaches clients how their nervous system works and provides strategies to improve the Vagus nerve functioning for better self-regulation. This foundational understanding is crucial as it equips clients with the tools needed for deeper therapeutic work.

Through EMDR, we identify the root causes of current-day issues and address the traumas or past events that continue to cause distress. This process allows for a total system upgrade of the brain and body. As a result, clients can free themselves from the daily triggers and emotional turmoil stemming from their past experiences. EMDR helps the brain reprocess stressful life events that may be causing feelings of overwhelm, stress, anxiety, and other emotional or physical symptoms. This therapeutic approach enables the brain and nervous system to settle, breaking the cycle of constant fight or flight responses, which is often experienced as chronic anxiety.

I tailor each session to address your unique challenges and goals, using my expertise in EMDR to support your path toward emotional healing. With my experience and commitment to your well-being, I’m here to help you navigate your journey toward lasting relief and a more peaceful life.

What sets me apart from other EMDR therapists? I provide EMDR therapy to fidelity—meaning it is delivered exactly as it was researched and developed, following the full 8-phase protocol outlined by Francine Shapiro. Unfortunately, many therapists have moved away from this structured approach, which can limit the effectiveness of the therapy. When EMDR is not conducted in its entirety, it may fail to fully resolve the memory networks associated with trauma. My goal is to ensure you receive the full benefit of this powerful, evidence-based treatment.

I want potential clients to know that I am not the type of therapist who listens while you talk about your week; I actively engage in the deeper work with you. 

I understand that working through trauma can be terrifying. That's why I focus so much on preparation before delving into the more challenging aspects of your past. My priority is to ensure that my clients feel safe and ready to work through their trauma. Although this work can be difficult, it is incredibly rewarding.
